The funny side of it all.

Yes, that title is correct, there has to be a funny side to it all or you find your self just crying all day long if you don't try and find some smiles now and then. I head in to the store with my family and I saw a woman look at me, gasp out loud as she clamped her hand over her mouth and she said Oh My god as she looked at my scar. It is huge and very noticeable. I laugh :-) I was worried this week that my hair wasn't growing back in since where they shaved it the second time on Thanksgiving, its only about a eighth of a inch long. I said something about it at the family gathering and my son pipes up well it is growing back mom, that gray streak you have right in the middle is about a inch long and spiked strait up. Thanks Joey lol I also misplaced something at the party then we found it and he announces that my memory isn't all that great since they played around in my head. Thanks Hun, what would I do without you to remind me. A while back I was bemoaning my misshaped skull and the doctor said it looked fine, then she was called out of the room. She came back in a couple minutes later and said Oh wow, your right, it is flat there. I can see it in this light better. I said thanks so much ! Today I went out with a friend for lunch. As we waited for the lunch, the lady behind the counter went to hand me my lemon aid. Wow, no depth perception and double vision make it hard to reach out to the same place she was. I looked like I was waving my hand trying to connect with hers. It does get me down now and then because I still can't see well enough to drive, I walk into walls and door frames, look drunk at times but I then remind myself... I'm alive, pain is going away and I can still do most things I enjoy. Life is good, you just have to look for it some times in a smile :-)

I thought this smile was fitting since that's kinda how I look with my one bad eye that isn't working right.

  1. Lisa - I am your mother, so I know that you always have a strong spirit, and are always able to laugh at yourself. You are going through a very difficult time - we are all pulling for you, and will be so happy when you are able to drive, see normally, etc. Everyone has difficult things they have to live with - sometimes these things are visible, and sometimes invisible. I hope your strong spirit keeps you going the whole time!! You are doing very well.

  2. Hey there! Just getting back to reading about your journey. I have had a jouney of my own. My son, who was diagnosed with epilepsy when he was 3 (went on meds, went off meds when he was 5, no more seizures....) started to have seizures again. Grand mal, partial, etc. Thought to be because he started puberty! He was put on a medication which had bad side effects making him very anxious and still not controlling all seizures. He was up 10 times a night.....lost a lot of sleep....fast forward to today. He had a sleep study done at Chapel Hill to rule out a sleeping disorder. The results of the study showed he had 10 partial seizures. So No on the sleep disorder, but a definite seizure disorder. Now on a different medication which has made all the difference. The transition from one med to the other has been a "fun time" but we are now settling into a seizure free zone and no side effects....he can finally behave like a regular 12 year old! ANYHOW! Just ordered a piece of jewelry from you and scanned back through my etsy emails with you from sept and oct and was able to pull up this blog THANK GOD! I am glad to see you are doing okay...alive and all that (well, I had to consider that maybe you had gone to the great jewelry God in the sky after realizing how long it had been since we last spoke!!) and I look forward to hearing something from you. Send me a pic......I bet it's not all that bad anyways. And ya know what? You're gonna be okay and it will continue to be better.....ONE DAY AT A TIME anyhow, my email is mshea100@gmail.com love ya and thinking of you. PEACE. Maria
